STEPS
Purchase or borrow a cheap "Brain Teasers" book and perform the exercises. And try step 10 with the book !
Read everyday. Work on reading slower and letting the information soak into your head.
If you have at least ten days (preferably one month) before your test, train your working memory (there are various programs that do this -- the most affordable and effective is probably the mind evolve IQ Training Program.)
Learn whether your IQ test will be timed, how unanswered questions are scored, whether you'll be allowed to wear a watch, whether you can use scrap paper, and whether there will be restroom breaks.
Get a good night's sleep. Don't stray far from your usual routine.
Eat well. Eat breakfast. Consuming too little or too much can affect concentration. If you're going to hit the carbs, don't hit them several hours before the test - or you'll "crash" during the test and have a difficult time focusing. Start on a multivitamin regimen right away.
Relax. Clear your mind, take a walk, jog. Studies show that exercise helps when taking tests.
Consume slightly more caffeine than you usually consume. Caffeine has been shown to increase alertness and intelligence, though consumption of too much caffeine can cause jitters, anxiety attacks, and trouble concentrating. If you can drink a Sugar-Free Red Bull without having ill effects, then it may boost your IQ score.
Get comfortable. Wear very comfortable clothes, take a moment to clear your head before you begin the test. Don't allow yourself to have an anxiety attack, as this will make it harder to concentrate. Avoid anxious people and anxious ideas - they're infectious.
Eliminate incorrect answers, skip impossible questions, and avoid superstitious ideas like "Always go with your first guess" or "Never go with one that's too obvious". Try to see past these platitudes. Realize that every question could be a trick question and that plenty of questions could be numbingly easy.
Type "Christelle's Eureka Method" in Google, be very patient... and have lots fun !

TIPS
Creatine Monohydrate, an amino acid commonly used for athletic performance enhancement, has been shown in University studies to measurably and consistently improve intelligence.
For the love of God, don't start smoking, but if you're already a smoker, smoke a cigarette before the test and during a break if it's permissable. You may even consider using a nicotine patch or gum if you're a true nicofiend and the test is long.
Study past tests for questions that are likely to appear. These will vary depending on the institution, but many questions are standardized.

WARNINGS
Have you ever wondered how it is that people with an IQ over 140 are about 3% of the population but over 50% of your friends and relatives? That's because they took cheesy online IQ tests that aim to flatter people with high scores and then coax them into purchasing detailed reports on how smart they are. They could also be lying. Whatever the circumstance, try to put your score into perspective. If it proves to be lower than you had hoped, remind yourself that success is always relative to potential. Someone with an IQ of 90 who holds a full-time job bagging groceries is infinitely more successful than a self-absorbed loser with an IQ of 135 who lives in his mom's basement.
